Press Release– UNITED IN SOLIDARITY: PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE ANNOUNCES HISTORIC MARCH
The People’s Movement for Change (PMC), in collaboration with a coalition of organizations, is proud to announce its March for Solidarity, scheduled to take place on 20 March 2025, from 9:00 AM, starting at 10 Darling Street and concluding at Parliament, Cape Town.
The PMC expresses its grave concerns regarding the recent expulsion of South Africa’s Ambassador to the USA, and former Premier of the Western Cape, Ebrahim Rasool.
This unjustified action not only undermines South Africa’s standing internationally but also perpetuates dangerous narratives about the country, driven by organizations like AfriForum and Solidariteit.
The PMC calls on President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene as a matter of urgency to counteract these negative messages and protect the dignity and sovereignty of South Africa on the global stage.
This march, themed “Solidarity with Cuba, Palestine, and Russia,” symbolizes unity and unwavering support for countries and causes that stand firm against imperialism, inequality, and injustice.
The event is endorsed by multiple key organizations that champion justice, social cohesion, and international solidarity:
• South African Communist Party (SACP)
• Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU)
• District 6 Beneficiary and Redevelopment Trust
• Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC)
• Youth for Al-Quds
• Pan Africanist Congress (PAC)
• Friends of Cuba Society – South Africa (FOCUS)
• Muslim Judicial Council (SA)
• AL JAMA-AH
• CDR (Concerned Drakenstein Residents)
• South African Muslim Authors and Artists Association (SAMA-AAA) • SA 1st Forum
This unification of diverse organizations underscores a shared commitment to advocate for equitable policies, resist global oppression, and express solidarity with historically oppressed nations and communities.
The PMC invites all South Africans and allies to join this momentous event as we amplify the voices for justice and fairness that echo across borders. Together, we will reaffirm our commitment to a shared future free from oppression and exploitation.
